Grenfell Tower Fire: Five Years On

A Devastating Tragedy

In the early hours of June 14, 2017, a fire engulfed Grenfell Tower, a 24-story residential building in West London. The blaze, which started from a faulty refrigerator, quickly spread up the tower's exterior cladding, trapping residents inside.

Aftermath and Legacy

The Grenfell Tower fire claimed the lives of 72 people, leaving a community devastated and a country in mourning. In the aftermath, there was widespread anger and outrage over the lack of building safety regulations and the government's response to the tragedy.

The fire led to a public inquiry, which is ongoing, and has exposed systemic failures in the construction and regulation of high-rise buildings in the UK. It has also raised questions about social inequality and the plight of marginalized communities living in social housing.

Today, five years after the Grenfell Tower fire, the community is still reeling from the loss and trauma. A memorial has been erected at the site, and a permanent memorial is planned to be built in the future.
